Creating an account and signing in
Create your Clipfer account, sign in, choose to stay signed in, reset a forgotten password and what "Soon" means when sign-ups are closed.
A Clipfer account is a private space: your videos, your settings, your projects and your profile are attached to it, invisible to anyone else. An email address and a password are all it takes. Here is the full path, from sign-up to password reset.
Creating an account
- On clipfer.com, click Get started or Create an account.
- On the Create a Clipfer account page, fill in your Email address, a Username and a Password, then confirm it.
- Click Create my account.
- Open the message you receive and follow its link: the Check your inbox page tells you so. Until the link is opened, the account is waiting for its address to be confirmed.
The username is 3 to 30 characters long: letters, digits, hyphen and underscore only. A password that is too short, identical to the previous one or found in a known data breach is refused, with a clear message.
A new account gets 10 free credits to try things out, no card needed, with 5 GB of storage and 30 minutes of transcription per month.
When sign-ups are closed
Clipfer sometimes does not accept new accounts yet. The site button then reads Soon (Bientôt in French) and the sign-up page says Sign-ups are closed for now. If you already have an account, signing in works as usual.
Signing in
- Click Sign in on the site, or open the Sign in to Clipfer page directly.
- Enter your address and your password.
- Tick Remember me or not, then click Sign in.
The Remember me box changes one thing only: how long the session lasts. Ticked, it stays open for thirty days, even after the browser is closed. Unticked, it ends when you close the browser. Either way, your password is stored nowhere.
After signing in, you land in the Studio. If you had asked for a specific page before being sent to the sign-in screen, you are taken back there.
Forgotten password
- On the sign-in page, click Forgotten password?.
- Enter your address and click Send the link. The message If an account exists with this address, a reset link is on its way. shows in every case, so nothing is revealed about existing accounts.
- Open the link you receive: the New password page asks you to choose another one, then Save the new password.
- Sign in again with that password.
A link works once and expires. If you see This link has expired or has already been used, ask for a new one from step 1.
Common error messages
- Incorrect email address or password. Check what you typed; the password is case-sensitive.
- This account is still waiting for its email address to be confirmed. Open the link in the sign-up message.
- Too many attempts. Try again in a few minutes. The site limits rapid retries; wait a little.
- Could not connect. Check your internet access. The site did not answer; try again.
Signing out
Open the account menu (the block under the logo, at the top of the sidebar) and click Sign out. On a shared computer, always do it, especially if Remember me was ticked.
