Put a Snapchat text on a video

Import a vertical video, let the model suggest a caption or write your own, adjust its position, check it, then export the overlay.

Video coming soonA short video of this tutorial will be added here. Until then, the steps below are all you need.

Text Overlay puts a Snapchat-style, POV, POV TikTok or plain text on one or more vertical videos. The text is written by you or suggested by the analysis model; here we put a Snapchat band on a single video.

Before you start

  • A vertical video in MP4, MOV, M4V or WebM.
  • For the Snapchat style, a Mac or an iPhone: it uses the Helvetica Neue font, which only those devices have. The POV, POV TikTok and Text styles work everywhere.
  • Credits: 1 credit per requested text type at analysis, then 1 credit per started minute at render. Typing the caption yourself skips the first one.

Steps

  1. Open Text Overlay and drop the video into "Vertical videos to caption". Click Continue to analysis.
  2. In the Analyse step, under "Overlay types", tick Snapchat ("Black band, Helvetica Neue"). Picking several types gives one file per type, for a single analysis per video.
  3. Set the Caption language ("Automatic" follows the spoken language) and, to steer the model, the Extra instructions: "funnier tone", "first person", "under 50 characters".
  4. Click Analyse the video and confirm. The audio track goes to Deepgram and up to eight downscaled frames go to the model; never the video itself. To skip the analysis, click Type the captions myself instead.
  5. In the Text step, the "Suggestions" appear, sorted by style (Curiosity, Humour, Question, Reaction…). Click Use under the one you like, or type straight into the field "Type the caption, or pick a suggestion below". A suggested text stays freely editable.
  6. Click Adjust the text. In the Adjust step, drag the text vertically on the preview, or use the Quick positions (Top, Centre, Bottom). The Text size, the band colour and the Display duration ("Whole video" or a window) are set in the Style panel. A warning shows if the text leaves the area TikTok, Reels and Snapchat keep visible.
  7. Click Check. The Check step sums up "What will be rendered": the text, its height and its display window. Adjust takes you back; otherwise click Approve all and export.
  8. In the Export step, click Render the video and confirm the cost. When the file shows "File ready", click Download. If you change the text afterwards, the file becomes "outdated" and is rendered again.

Expected result

A video with a neutral name (vid_….mp4), the Snapchat band burned in at the chosen height for the chosen duration, and cleaned metadata. Cost for a one-minute video: 1 analysis credit (if the model suggested the text) and 1 render credit. An analysis refused by the model, or one with no suggestion, is refunded, and an analysis already paid is never charged again.
